Always Expect the Unexpected
Well, we’re back. After several weeks off the radar, I am happy to say that the Local Living Magazine Blog is back on track.
Like many people with elderly parents, you never know when your life will turn upside down. Care and health become your number one priority for your parents and yourself.
It’s not an easy thing to go through, and family can be a blessing or not. Hopefully, most families work together to make sure their parents are happy, healthy, loved and understood.
I feel for anyone going through a health scare or any other issues that can come up as our parents age. It’s an eye-opening, stressful and confusing time for all involved.
Often, many of the responsibilities of caring for elderly parents fall mostly on adult children or relatives, which can be very demanding if you do not have resources and support.
Many Seniors Prefer Home Care
If your parents can live independently at home, resources are the most important thing to research, for instance, MyAgedCare. Mid Murray Support Service Inc. in Mannum is our local, professional, regional support service for Aged Care and NDIS.
MyAgedCare does require assessment for services including, Domestic Assistance, Transport. Social Support Groups, Home Maintenance, Meals and more.
NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) requires approval for consumers who have either a self-managed plan or plan-managed NDIS package.
With limited rural providers available, Mid Murray Support Service Inc. is our local solution. I have received valuable advice that helped me tackle and understand my families situation.
If you would like to talk to someone about your situation and get advice on navigating the system, call Mid Murray Support Service on 8569 2129.
